Bletchley Rugby Club was founded in 1947, after the Town Surveyor Mr. J Smithie sought to provide more local sporting activities for the town. He loved to play cricket and football – both outdoor sports – but wanted his new sports pavilion to be capable of hosting indoor sporting activities such as badminton and gymnastics as well.
Around the same time, in 1947 four rugby union football lovers met to discuss forming a rugby club as part of the new Bletchley Sports Club.
Throughout the 1960s the Club experienced gradual development, moving from the Swan Hotel to the Bull. During this time of change and upheaval, the Club nearly went bankrupt. However, it was brought back from the brink by Robin Bowen Williams. He hosted a series of fundraisers to get the club back on its feet.
During the 1980s, Bletchley embarked on its first overseas tour when a party of players and supporters went on a trip to the United States.
In 2008, they launched their first Ladies Section which has gone on to win several National Challenge League Titles. The Rugby Club also boasts an Under 18s Section.
We are hugely proud to announce that we are the official sponsors of the Bletchley Rugby Tour Hoodies for 2020. We wish them the very best of luck on their up and coming tour!
